Is apple cider vinegar good for YOU or Nah?

It seems like everywhere I go I hear about apple cider vinegar this and apple cider vinegar that, but is it really a miracle cure for your health ailments or is it just snake oil?

Growing up I never saw anybody drinking this stuff or talking about it like they do today. Was it a top secret special remedy that nobody wanted to share or was it the lack of social media and research that has kept this product from us for so long.

Apple cider vinegar has been around for thousands of years, but it has grown more popular in recent years. I will be discussing my thoughts on what I researched and whether apple cider vinegar is worth trying.

What is Apple Cider Vinegar Made of?


This special process is started by crushing and squeezing the liquid out of apples. Bacteria and yeast are added to the liquid to start the alcohol fermentation process.

In a second fermentation process, the alcohol is converted into vinegar by acetic acid forming bacteria. Acetic acid and malic acid give vinegar its sour taste.

It’s basically alcohol without the alcohol and tastes like it too. Have you ever tried this stuff, WOW it has a kick!

I have heard of some people drinking it with lemon water and honey to make it more palatable.

This makes me wonder how can something so acidic be good for you without messing up our bodies PH levels.

So, here’s the low down…Only Raw Apple Cider Vinegar is Alkaline(GOOD) forming to the body.

White vinegar is acidic(BAD)forming.

To have a healthy and balanced PH level, you want to go with the raw apple cider vinegar with the ‘Mother’.

On a PH scale, 7 is neutral and below that is acidic and above is alkaline. It’s best for our bodies to be slightly alkaline as much as possible for good health.


So, What is Apple Cider Vinegar for?

The process of making apple cider vinegar is regarded throughout history. In 400 B.C. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, used RAW Apple Cider Vinegar for its natural qualities for a variety of ailments.


Some of the TOP uses for apple cider vinegar today include:

  • Preserve Food
  • For Sauces and Marinades
  • Aid in Digestion
  • Assist in Making Perfect Poached and Boiled eggs
  • Help with Weight Loss
  • Boost the Immune System
  • For Cleaning and Disinfecting
  • Acne and Wart Treatment

Many of the claims for apple cider vinegar uses are great and make sense, but some just don’t have enough long-term data to back up its effectiveness.

Maybe apple cider vinegar is what its all hyped up to be or it could be a placebo effect that is going on.

Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother


Raw apple cider vinegar contains the ‘Mother’ which occurs naturally as connected strand-like chains of protein enzyme molecules form.

It’s basically the beneficial bacteria created through the fermentation process that has not been pasteurized or filtered out.

Raw apple cider vinegar with the ‘Mother’ is great for many food preparation uses and offers the most health benefits.

While refined vinegar is better for cleaning uses and doesn’t offer the same health benefits as raw vinegar.

  • Support a Healthy Immune System
  • Promotes Digestion and PH Balance
  • Helps Soar/Dry Throats

Side effects:

Be aware of the possible side effects and consult your physician before using if you are taking prescription medicine.

If you do take apple cider vinegar, just like anything else, don’t over do it!

Apple cider vinegar can be a great addition to your healthy lifestyle, but do your research and understand that apple cider vinegar is not the only answer to great health!


Why is Apple Cider Vinegar Good for Weight Loss?

Some studies show the effects of Raw apple cider vinegar can:

  • Suppress appetite
  • Burn fat
  • Reduce fat storage
  • Improve metabolism
  • Lower blood sugar levels

Most of the studies performed were on animals(rats) and found that acetic acid can aid in fat loss.

Although, there is one study showing that adding 1-2 Tbsp. of Raw apple cider vinegar a day has helped people(humans) lose up to 4lbs. in 12 weeks.


I will tell you that apple cider vinegar alone is not going to make the same effect as if you were to become more active through various fitness routines and start a healthier nutrition plan.

If you are serious about your health, its going to take more than just apple cider vinegar to make a long-term difference.

Let’s be realistic here and try to understand that there is no such thing as an easy way to lose weight and become more healthy.  You need to put in the work and sweat a little bit.

This means workout on a regular basis; at least 4 times a week and learn about what your nutritional needs are to successfully achieve your goals.

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Really Work?

How effective is apple cider vinegar?

I personally tried Bragg Organic RAW Apple Cider Vinegar, but I’m not sure that I really needed to.

I just assumed it was a good thing to do, to be healthier, but I already eat a mostly healthy diet and really don’t need apple cider vinegar to supplement or cure any conditions.

In fact the real question is, would you take apple cider vinegar over modern medicine to treat your ailments or are you taking it for preventive reasons.

I still haven’t heard of anybody I know personally take apple cider vinegar and have instant better health.

It is about having a healthy lifestyle that includes a fitness and nutrition plan to keep you less of a risk for many health issues like:

  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease and stroke
  • Cancer
  • Gout
  • Gallbladder disease and gallstones
  • High blood pressure
  • Breathing problems
  • Osteoarthritis

I’m not saying Raw apple cider vinegar hasn’t earned its place, just know why your taking it and understand its purpose.

Almost 40% of Americans are overweight or obese and this is the leading cause for many health related issues that can be prevented or reversed through a healthy fitness and nutrition plan.

    I frequently use apple-cidar vinegar in recipes and a few home remedies. That if I tell yah, gonna have to kill yah kind of family secrets, part “Guyaneese and Jamaican”. My mother, grandmother’s, (on both sides), shared some of the benefits of regularly using this wonder tonic. However, YOU have done some Excellent research yourself! Helped me out BIG TIME because I Actually had ZERO clue as to WHY I was using apple-cidar vinegar, just that my mom said to use it on certain foods or a teaspoon of this with a sprinkle of that should do the trick, and it does!
