Grill

In my opinion it’s not so much about what you eat, but how you cook it and how much you eat is what to think about to have a healthy diet.

Understand a salad can be unhealthy if you dump a ton of dressing on it and a chicken wing can be healthier grilled then fried.

Remember we are eating to fuel are bodies for an active lifestyle, that requires a certain amount of calories to produce the energy we need to be productive.

The way you cook your food can make a huge impact on your total calorie intake. Unhealthy cooking like frying can add unnecessary calories to your daily recommended value and make it harder to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

When you can cook your food in a variety of ways that taste great and is a healthier alternative to frying or eating fast food you will look and feel better.

I’m going to explore some healthy ways to cook your food that will be delicious and satisfying. If you like to eat good food and have the time to cook, then you will enjoy the cooking options that I will be discussing.

# 1. Grill

The best grilled food is usually cooked outdoors with hardwood charcoal, but you can also make some great grilled food on an indoor electric grill too.

A great idea for when you grill your food is to make enough food that can last a couple days so you can make a variety of different meals. For example, if you grill up some chicken breast you can have a bunch of different meal options to use the chicken with.

Some great food choices to cook on the grill are:

  • Chicken
  • Steaks
  • Fish/ Shrimp
  • Pork(Loin & Chops)
  • Vegetables

Grilling is one of my favorite ways to cook healthy meals for my family, because it tastes great and you don’t need to add any oils or butter to cook a delicious homemade meal.

When you grill a lot of the fat from the food you cook is rendered away, making grilled food a healthy cooking option.

# 2. Smoker

Like grilling, some smoked food health benefits are that it’s an awesome way to make great tasting food without using extra oils or butter to cook.

If you have a good quality smoker you can cook your own restaurant quality BBQ and have your block wishing that they were invited for dinner.

You can smoke just about anything from:

  • Beef(Brisket, Ribs, Tenderloin, Ribeye Roast)
  • Pork(Shoulder, Ribs, Tenderloin, Chops)
  • Chicken/ Turkey(Whole, Bone-In Breast, Legs, Wings)
  • Fish(Salmon, Trout)

When you smoke your food it gives it a wonderful flavor and color that is unmatched by any other way of cooking.

Just because you smoke your food doesn’t mean that it should taste overly smoky, that is a personal preference and comes down to the type of wood/charcoal you use and the type of smoker you use.

If you want an easy self operating smoker; go with an electric pellet cooker, if you want to be a little more hands on; go with an offset or barrel style smoker.

I personally love my WSM smoker, but I wouldn’t mind trying a pellet cooker in the future.

# 3. Slow Cooker

Cooking your food in a slow cooker, crock-pot, or Instant Pot is a cross between boiling and baking, but with the advantage of not having to constantly check or worry about burning and overcooking your food.

Your food is self basted in the liquid you put in the pot and this keeps the food moist and full of flavor.

Try making:

  • Chicken(Breasts, Thighs, Wings)
  • Beef(Roast, Tenderloin)
  • Pork(Shoulder, Tenderloin)
  • Beans & Chili
  • Soups & Stews

  1. I never tried eating smoked food but recently my trainer suggested that I should give it a shot. And it seems like there are a lot of meat types which can be cooked with it so I can easily continue having the same foods without any change in my macros.
Also, I only ate smoked foods in restaurants, I hope I can cook my ribeye properly.

    • Hey Furkan,

Thanks for your comment! One of the great things about grilling/ smoking your food is that you can cook a variety of meats that will allow you to have food to last a few days, so you have high quality protein that is readily available through-out the day and specifically post workout.

      All the best,

      Marcus
